Bowser Brewing Company re-opens after paperwork snag

Just days after opening its doors, Bowser Brewing Company in Great Falls was forced to close for a brief time.

Brewery owner Evan Bowser says the City notified him on Wednesday that the correct paperwork had not been filed for the business to be open.

Bowser says the paperwork that was filed still had not reached the State, leaving Bowser Brewing Company without a brewer’s license.

He says the whole ordeal made him nervous: “You know when I heard I didn’t file everything I thought it was going to be a huge issue and I was gong to have to close down for quite a while. Luckily it was just a small paperwork issue and we got it cleared up this morning.”

Bowser says all the correct filings have been made, and cleared with the City and State as of Thursday morning.

The doors, which closed last night, re-opened again at 1 p.m. on Thursday.

(November 25, 2011) An old Great Falls building is getting a new look, as the Bowser Brewing Company is moving in and hopes to brew up some success with a unique twist on a frothy favorite.

What started as a home brewing operation and a passion for creativity is now turning into full time business for the Bowser family.

Owner Evan Bowser said, “It’s just a passion that we had that grew and grew.”

The new brewery will occupy the old Sting, but getting the OK to brew was no small feat.

A brewery hasn’t called Great Falls home since the 1960′s.

“It’s totally something different that Great Falls doesn’t have yet. We are looking for something different to kind of spark the nightlife,” said Bowser.

Bowser grows his own hops and 90% of his barley comes from Montana, but what really sets the company apart are the unique brew concoctions.

“I brewed two beers,” Bowser explained, “A chocolate stout and a strawberry ale and then I did black and tans with them, mixed them together half and half and it tasted like a chocolate covered strawberry. It was a huge hit.”

Bowser will also be brewing up a jalapeno beer and another using prickly pear juice.

“Every time you come to our tap room it’s going to be something different,” said Bowser.

The Brewery will also brew soda pop and sparkling water.
