Change law on home brewing
Jessica Bakeman’s article in the June 11 Clarion-Ledger, in which she speaks of our home brewing law being challenged by several beer lovers groups, is the catalyst for this letter.
At present, “home brewing is illegal,” says Kathy Waterbury, spokesperson for the Department of Revenue. “Enforcing the law isn’t high on the agency’s list,” she adds.
Consequently, I agree with the beer lovers’ desire to legalize home brewing. If there is no intention of enforcing it, why have the law?
According to the law, Bill Horne, Woods Drinkwater and Ashlyn Harmon are confessed lawbreakers. Wouldn’t be hard to track them down and collect the fines and change the unenforceable law.
It’s good to know what’s “cooking at the Kellys.” Love the brewers, just take their hospitality with a dose from the Book of Wisdom.
Seems to me, Raise Your Pints club has sabotaged its recent victory of adding more alcohol to a can of beer. If everyone is brewing the best, and drinking the best at home, where are all the customers for store-bought beer coming from?
Please, let’s get rid of the unenforceable law, make our streets and highways safe from drunk drivers, via home brewing.
